You probably haven’t given much thought as to whether or not fire proofing exists in your home, but it does catch your attention when you see how fast a home can quickly go up in flames when seeing it on the evening news. At Radiant we are well versed in all of the codes required by local townships and building departments within the New York area, so that when our expert teams install fire caulking, you can be confident that the job meets both local and federal standards.

How It Works

It’s not known how many thousands of lives have been saved by fire caulking, but the more you take this precaution, the safer you will be. There are many pathways where fire can travel within your home (think vents, pips, ducts, wires and more). When applied properly, fire caulking seals off these pathways and makes them airtight. Since fire thrives on air, the fire caulking serves to choke off the sources of the fire and helps to prevent the spread of smoke and other deadly toxins.

House on fire

“Fire caulking is an essential aspect of the fire safety method known as fireblocking, which restricts the movement of flames, drafts, smoke, and toxic gasses within a building’s interior”

The Application Process

The first step is to sanitize the area which removes dust and other debris that might reduce effectiveness of the caulking. At each level, fire caulking is applied to areas where vertical penetrations pass through the floors of the house. Repeating the same process, we also apply caulking to the horizontal penetrations where they travel through those same interior walls.

Quality Assured Solution

When it comes to fireblocking caulk, we use Fire Seal for a number of reasons:
Eco-friendly
Meets and exceeds standards set by the International Residential Code (IRC)
Top choice for contractors nationwide due to its freeze-thaw and adhesion characteristics
Cures to solid mortar in under 72 hours
Tested and proven to meet recognized safety standards

Contact us today for a free onsite evaluation where we will walk you through the entire process and how your home will be protected.

Whether you have noisy teenagers, want to watch a movie in peace, or not listen to your husband play his guitar, you may consider taking some steps to have your home evaluated to see where sound abatement can be installed. Many of our Radiant customers don’t even realize that these types of improvements can be done in their home and not break the budget. If you are building a new home, or renovating your existing home, there’s no reason not to consider this type of project that will make everyone happy!

Here are just a few of the areas where we can make adjustments:

Home theaters
Music rooms
Mechanical rooms
Between floors and from room to room

Consider Acoustical Ceiling Work

Most homeowners assume that noise reduction can only be improved by fixing the walls, when actually, another solution does exist. Our Radiant experts are pros at installing acoustical ceilings which are specialized to improve sound quality and reduce the noise within a space. They work well when sound is created by rooms with hard surfaces that can cause echoing or other distractions.

There are many ways you can use drywall and Batt Insulation to reduce noise and accomplish the results you are looking for, but basically the process focuses on both reducing how the sound is transmitted through your walls and applying solutions that affect how sound can travel through the drywall.

Contact us today for a free evaluation and we can quickly provide a detailed project plan and recommendations from our team of experts.

Construction worker viewing his work

As a full service insulation and drywall company, we work closely with every client to ensure that not only do we meet their specific needs and expectations, but make product recommendations that we know will live up to the demands of the job.

Today we offer two different types of insulation to work with, and both meet the rigorous standards that our customers have come to expect from the products we use.

WHY SPRAY FOAM INSULATION?

“Spray foam is an optimal insulation option when looking for a long-lasting, powerful insulator to protect your home from outside elements while cutting down on energy costs”

Many of our customers come to us frustrated that even when they adjust their cooling and heating systems to save money, their bills still come in high. Yes, rates are rising throughout the area, but there are things you can do to help the situation.

The Benefits

Long lasting and guaranteed
Energy Efficiency
Moisture Blocking
Mold Prevention
Increases the value of your home

Quality Materials

We are proud to use ICYNENE spray foam insulation products. This product is trusted by both contractors and homeowners as it is effective in sealing walls, ceilings and other places where air or moisture can infiltrate a structure. Very affordable, this type of insulation is available in both Open-Cell and Closed-Cell spray foam. Our experts are able to identify which kind should be used in the different areas of your home.

The Process

The first step in our process is to perform a no cost home evaluation where we walk through the structure and determine areas that would benefit from insulation. Once that is determined, then our team of carefully trained experts will apply the spray foam into any open building cavities that are suitable. This of course includes floors, studded walls and even ceilings.

Sometimes there can be a situation where there are closed wall/retrofitted projects. In these cases, we employ a special method called dense packing. This entails running a tube from our truck and filling cavities with cellulose after we have precision cut circular holes in the wall. But no worries! Once we are done, you will never see that we have been there, but you will see the difference in your energy bills!

WHY BATT INSULATION?

“Batt insulation is a highly effective and cost-efficient way to insulate your home. This form of fiberglass insulation makes your home more energy efficient and can lower your heating and cooling expenses by over 30%. It also functions as a viable soundproofing material by helping to prevent sound from traveling through a house’s framing”

Sometimes it’s preferable to use Batt insulation as walls, floors and other construction components may require a different thickness to achieve the optimal energy efficiency you need. All forms of insulation are given a rating score as an R-Value based on their ability to prevent the transfer of heat. This way, our dedicated team knows the exact thickness you need to best insulate the different areas of your home.

As determined by the Department of Energy, there is a detailed table we follow that can show the specific thickness needed to be put into place for interior framed walls, exterior walls and even floors and crawlspaces.

The Process

Before any installation, our experts will perform a close inspection to evaluate the different levels of insulation needed to provide thermal resistance within the various areas of the structure. Then, the fiberglass batt insulation is cut to exact measurements as determined by the team. This helps to not only assist with making your home more energy efficient, but also cuts down on waste.

An Added Bonus

We have a fully stocked warehouse with premium-grade batt insulation in all sizes and R-Values. Conveniently located in Middle Island, New York, means that our teams can cut down on extra trips to suppliers and we can get your job done faster and more efficiently. Even better, it allows us to purchase our materials in bulk, at lower costs, which means you save as well!

Ready to save on your energy bills? Contact us today to learn more about why choosing the right insulation makes a difference. We will be happy to provide you with a free estimate and answer any questions you may have.

How A Lower HERS Rating Leads To Lower Energy Bills https://radiantinsulsystems.com/2025/08/25/how-a-lower-hers-rating-leads-to-lower-energy-bills/ Mon, 25 Aug 2025 15:09:34 +0000 https://radiantinsulsystems.com/?p=26922 The post How A Lower HERS Rating Leads To Lower Energy Bills appeared first on Long Island Insulation Company - MESSER DRYWALL & INSULATION.

]]>

Are you looking for ways to cut down on your energy bills each month? Understanding your home’s Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rating is a good starting point. Learn more about how it works and what you can do to improve your score.

How HERS Ratings Work

When a HERS rater evaluates your home, they’ll give you a score from 0 to 100. Generally speaking, a new home typically starts at a score of 100 and can range lower or higher based on factors such as insulation, windows, your HVAC system, etc. The lower the score your home has, the less energy it uses and the more you save on your energy bills.

What To Do To Lower Your Score

If you want to lower your home’s HERS rating, there are a few steps you can take starting right now, such as:

 • Getting your home professionally sealed to cover air leaks
 • Upgrade your insulation
 • Ensure your drywall doesn’t have any cracks
 • Install energy-efficient windows or HVAC systems

At MESSER DRYWALL & INSULATION, we help homeowners create more energy-efficient homes. To discover your home’s HERS rating or to learn about our services, please contact us at today.

Hearing everything that happens inside and outside your home can get stressful, especially if you enjoy peace and quiet. This is why proper insulation is important to make sure your home stays noise-free.

Which Type Of Insulation Is Best For Soundproofing?

Open-Cell Spray Foam

This type of spray foam insulation has the unique ability to expand and seal any air gaps that might enable sound to travel through walls. It also works really well in irregular spaces where traditional insulation options won’t fit properly and provide full coverage.

Batt Insulation

Fiberglass batts are made with glass fibers and are placed between walls and other cavities in your home. This setup helps with trapping any sounds. When properly installed, it can help dampen noise between rooms and floors.

Mineral Wool

Known for being thick and highly resistant to fire, mineral wool insulation can also help with noise. Its sheer density helps insulate walls and trap sound that may pass between rooms.

Spraying Insulation

Are you sick of hearing every conversation in your house? Our Long Island insulation experts will help you reinforce your walls to help keep the noise out. Please contact us at today for a free estimate.

Spray foam stands out as one of the best types of insulation for new homes. It covers every nook and cranny, saves energy, and even prevents moisture from coming in. But how do you know if it’s the best option for your needs? Let’s go through a few instances where spray foam may be the way to go.

When Is Spray Foam The Best Option?

Areas In Your Home That Are Hard To Reach

Do you have a lot of irregular edges or crawlspaces where traditional insulation isn’t possible? Spray foam is an ideal choice for hard-to-reach areas, ensuring every part of your home is protected.

Moisture-Prone Spaces

Unlike other materials, closed cell foam resists water and moisture. This makes it perfect for basements or coastal homes where humidity levels tend to be much higher.

You Want Long-Term Value

Spray foam can be anywhere from two to three times more expensive than fiberglass installation. Sure, you have higher upfront costs, but they more than pay off in the form of lower energy bills and a more comfortable home. This type of insulation can also last for decades, making it worth every single penny.

How Do Drywall Finishing Levels Impact Your Space’s Final Look? https://radiantinsulsystems.com/2025/08/06/how-do-drywall-finishing-levels-impact-your-spaces-final-look/ Wed, 06 Aug 2025 14:33:09 +0000 https://radiantinsulsystems.com/?p=26928 The post How Do Drywall Finishing Levels Impact Your Space’s Final Look? appeared first on Long Island Insulation Company - MESSER DRYWALL & INSULATION.

Not all finished drywall is the same. The finish level will make a huge difference in how smooth or polished your walls look. Some homeowners think this is the case and don’t realize the difference until it’s too late. If you’re about to start a new project and aren’t sure what you need, this guide will walk you through each drywall finishing level and help you decide what’s best for your space.

What Are Drywall Finishing Levels?

Drywall finishing levels refer to how much taping, mudding, or sanding you need to do for each project. The original system was designed by the Gypsum Association. It saw how confusion between builders, contractors, and property owners could throw a project off track.

To stop that from happening, the organization created six standard levels (Level 0 through 5), with a specific use for each one. Here is an overview of every level and how it’s commonly used:

Level 0

Level 0 is considered the most basic level of drywall. If you requested this level, the drywall experts will install it as is. There’s no sanding or finishing of any type involved.

Level 1

The drywall joints are taped together at this level and nothing else has been done to it.

Level 2

If you request a level 2 drywall, the finishers will apply a thin coat of joint compound and cover the screw holes. This type of wall is common in places like utility rooms, unfinished garages, and storage areas.

Level 3

Experts apply an extra layer of mud and do some light sanding. This level is perfect for areas with industrial-style wall coverings or rough texture finishes, often seen in commercial buildings.

Level 4

Level 4 is the most common type of drywall finish. Finishers apply another round of joint compound. They also sand it to ensure it has a smooth surface. This type of drywall is ideal for most homes and properties that use paint, wall coverings, or light textures.

Level 5

This is the highest level of drywall finishing. Experts would apply an extra layer of mud that you normally wouldn’t see in the lower levels. This extra work done creates an ultra-smooth finish that’s perfect if you’re using deep-tone or dark paint colors.

Why Drywall Finishing Levels Matter

Designing your new bedroom will have completely different drywall needs than your storage space or attic. This is why choosing the right level makes a huge difference in your project’s final look. Skipping this step might land you with visible seams, rough patches, or uneven paint coverage, especially if the room has a lot of natural light where bumps or flaws are clearly visible.

An energy efficient home is a valuable commodity in the real estate market. It’s key to boosting the resale value of your home. The Home Energy Rating System, known as the HERS index, measures a home’s energy efficiency. Here are ways to ensure your abode is eco-friendly and more attractive to potential buyers.

How Homeowners Can Get an Optimal HERS Score

 • Choose construction materials that offer strong insulation and reduce heat loss.
 • Install high-efficiency HVAC systems that fit the size of the home.
 • Replace windows and doors with high-performance models to help prevent air leaks and maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.
 • Enhance your home’s ventilation system by putting fans and vents in places that will improve air flow.
 • Invest in renewable energy sources, like solar panels.
 • Use smart home technology, like programmable thermostats and LED lighting.
